Plumbing Questions? Get Straight Answers from Top Notch Plumbing
Plumbing problems don't always come with an obvious answer. Our goal is to make things simple: diagnose the problem accurately, explain what we find, give you your options, and let you decide how you want to proceed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Before You Schedule
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. We schedule appointments so a qualified plumbing professional can come to your home, properly evaluate the problem, and give you recommendations based on what they find. For urgent plumbing problems, we also offer emergency appointments.
Do you offer same-day plumbing service?
Yes, depending on our schedule and your location. Same-day availability is not guaranteed, so we recommend calling as soon as you know you have a plumbing problem.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency plumbing?
We offer 24/7 emergency plumbing appointments when availability permits. Emergency appointments are strictly dependent on our availability at that particular day and time. The emergency service call and diagnostic fee is $250, which is applied toward the repair if you hire Top Notch Plumbing to perform the work.
What areas do you service?
Top Notch Plumbing provides residential plumbing services throughout the greater Houston area, including Spring, The Woodlands, Cypress, Fulshear, Richmond, Katy, Houston, Atascocita, Kingwood, Humble, Tomball, Conroe, Montgomery, Missouri City, Sugar Land, Fresno, Pearland, and Magnolia. If you're unsure whether we service your area, give us a call — we'll be happy to check.
Pricing & Diagnosis
How much does a plumbing service call cost?
Our standard Diagnostic / Service Visit is $125. This covers having a plumbing professional come to your home, evaluate the problem, diagnose what is causing it, and explain your options. If you hire us to perform the repair during that same visit, the $125 is applied toward the repair. For emergency appointments, the diagnostic/service fee is $250, also applied toward the repair if you hire us.
Why can't you just give me a price over the phone?
Because an accurate plumbing price depends on what we actually find at your home. The same symptom can have several different causes, and the right solution can vary significantly depending on the condition of the plumbing, accessibility, materials, installation, and what is causing the problem. We would rather diagnose the problem correctly than give you a low number over the phone and change the price later. We believe you deserve the right information before making a decision.
Do I have to approve the repair before you start?
Yes. We diagnose the problem, explain what we found, discuss your options and pricing, and get your approval before performing the work. No pressure — you decide how you want to proceed.
Will you tell me if I don't actually need the repair?
Yes. Our recommendation is based on what we believe is best for your plumbing and your situation — not simply on what creates the largest job. Sometimes the right answer is a repair. Sometimes it's replacement. Sometimes something can safely wait. We'll tell you what we see and let you make the decision.
What if you discover another problem while working?
We'll tell you before we do anything about it. If we find something that could become a larger problem, we'll explain what we found, why it matters, the potential consequences, and your options — including what the worst-case scenario could look like. We believe homeowners should know what they are getting into before work begins.

Will your plumber protect my home?
Yes. Respecting your home is part of how we expect our technicians to work. We take reasonable care to protect the area where we're working, and we clean up after completing the job.
Are your plumbers licensed and insured?
Yes. Top Notch Plumbing is a licensed and insured residential plumbing company. Our team is expected to represent the company with professionalism, honesty, respect, and pride in their work.
Are your technicians background checked?
Yes, where applicable to our technician hiring and qualification process. We only want people representing Top Notch Plumbing who we would feel comfortable sending into our own homes.
Our Warranty
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Top Notch Plumbing provides a one-year workmanship warranty on qualifying work performed by Top Notch Plumbing. The workmanship warranty covers labor for one full year from the date of the repair, subject to the warranty's terms and exclusions.
What does your one-year workmanship warranty cover?
Our workmanship warranty covers problems resulting from the workmanship of a repair performed by Top Notch Plumbing. For example, if we repaired a specific leak and the same exact issue fails again because of our workmanship, it may be covered. The warranty does not mean every future plumbing problem in the same general area is automatically covered — a new or different problem is a separate plumbing issue.
What is not covered by the workmanship warranty?
The warranty does not cover:
- Drain or sewer stoppages
- Jammed garbage disposals
- Customer-supplied parts
- Manufacturer or component failures
- Normal maintenance
- Problems caused by use, conditions, or circumstances unrelated to our workmanship
Manufacturer or component warranties are handled through the applicable manufacturer.
What happens if a part or water heater fails under its manufacturer's warranty?
Manufacturer warranties are separate from Top Notch Plumbing's workmanship warranty. If a manufacturer determines that a covered product or component needs to be replaced under its warranty, the manufacturer handles the product warranty according to its terms. The cost of removing and installing a replacement unit is not automatically covered by the manufacturer's product warranty. If the problem is instead caused by improper installation or workmanship by Top Notch Plumbing, our workmanship warranty may apply. For manufacturer warranty questions, you'll generally need the information from the equipment's label.
Water Heater Questions
Do you repair and replace water heaters?
Yes. We work with both tank and tankless water heaters, including gas and electric systems. Depending on the situation, we can help determine whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
It depends on the condition, age, type of failure, cost of repair, remaining expected life, and your goals. We don't automatically recommend replacement simply because a water heater has a problem — we'll diagnose the issue and explain your options so you can make an informed decision.
What brands of water heaters do you install?
We install a variety of water heater systems, including brands such as Bradford White, A.O. Smith, Navien, and Rinnai, depending on the application and system selected.
Does Top Notch provide the manufacturer's water heater warranty?
The product warranty comes from the manufacturer, not Top Notch Plumbing. The exact warranty depends on the model and manufacturer. We can help with the installation, but manufacturer warranty coverage and replacement decisions are determined by the manufacturer according to its warranty terms.
Leaks
Can you find hidden water leaks?
Yes. We diagnose visible and hidden plumbing leaks and can use appropriate leak-detection methods depending on the situation. The location where you see water isn't always the location where the leak actually starts.
I see water coming from one place. Does that mean the leak is there?
Not necessarily. Water can travel through walls, ceilings, flooring, cabinets, and other areas before becoming visible. That's why accurate diagnosis matters.
What should I do if I discover a water leak?
If the leak is significant, shut off the water supply if you can safely do so and contact a plumbing professional as soon as possible. The sooner a leak is properly diagnosed, the better the chance of limiting additional water damage.
Drain & Stoppage Questions
Can you clear clogged drains?
Yes. We diagnose and clear residential drain stoppages and can determine what may be causing recurring problems.
Why does my drain keep clogging?
A recurring stoppage may indicate more than a simple blockage. Depending on the situation, the cause could include buildup, damaged or improperly installed piping, root intrusion, a restriction farther down the line, or another plumbing issue. If a drain repeatedly backs up, it's often better to find out why rather than repeatedly clearing the symptom.
Do you perform camera inspections?
Yes. We provide plumbing camera inspections to help identify conditions inside accessible drain and sewer piping. A camera can help us see problems that cannot be accurately diagnosed from the surface alone.
Do you recommend a camera inspection for every stoppage?
No. A camera inspection is a diagnostic tool, and whether it makes sense depends on the symptoms and what we find. We recommend it when the information it provides can help determine the cause or the appropriate solution.
Toilets & Garbage Disposals
Can you repair or replace toilets?
Yes. We provide toilet repair, toilet installation, toilet rebuilds, and related plumbing repairs. Depending on the condition of the toilet and the problem you're experiencing, repair may make more sense than replacement.
Can you repair a leaking or damaged toilet flange?
Yes. We diagnose and repair toilet flange problems when appropriate. A leak around the toilet base doesn't automatically mean the flange is the problem, so we recommend having the cause properly identified first.
Can you repair a garbage disposal?
Yes. Depending on the condition and type of problem, we can evaluate whether the disposal can be repaired or whether replacement makes more sense.
Why does my garbage disposal keep jamming?
Garbage disposals are affected by how they are used, what is put into them, and normal wear. Because stoppages and jams can be related to use rather than workmanship, they are not covered by our one-year workmanship warranty.
Water Filtration & Water Quality
Do you install water filtration systems?
Yes. We install residential water filtration and water treatment systems and can help determine what type of system makes sense for your home.
Re-Piping & Larger Plumbing Projects
When does a home need to be re-piped?
Re-piping may be considered when a home's plumbing system has widespread deterioration, repeated leaks, damaged or outdated piping, poor water pressure related to the piping, or other conditions that make repeated repairs impractical. A re-pipe is a significant investment, so we believe the decision should be based on the actual condition of the plumbing — not simply on age alone.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. When a permit is required based on the city and type of plumbing work, Top Notch Plumbing handles the applicable permitting process. Permit requirements can vary depending on the location and scope of the project.
Gas Lines
⚠ What should I do if I smell gas in my home?
If you smell gas or hear what may be a gas leak, treat it as a safety issue first.
Leave the home immediately. Do not turn lights or electrical switches on or off, use electrical equipment, light a flame, or use your phone while inside. Once you are safely outside and away from the suspected leak, contact emergency assistance as appropriate. Official consumer-safety guidance recommends leaving immediately and contacting emergency/local gas authorities from a safe location.
Do not re-enter the home until it has been determined to be safe.
Once the immediate safety concern has been addressed, a qualified professional can evaluate and repair the plumbing-side gas piping as appropriate.
Important: Top Notch Plumbing does not provide emergency-response instructions based on a customer's description of a suspected gas leak. If you believe there is an active gas emergency, prioritize getting to a safe location and contacting appropriate emergency assistance.
Can Top Notch Plumbing repair gas leaks?
Yes. We provide residential gas-line plumbing services and can diagnose and repair plumbing-side gas piping problems.
Payments & Financing
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept most major payment methods, including credit and debit cards, cash, and electronic payment options. We do not accept checks.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing options are available for qualifying customers. You can visit our Financing page and select "Apply Now" to complete the application online and receive an answer.
Why Homeowners Choose Top Notch
Why should I choose Top Notch Plumbing?
Because we believe plumbing service should be about more than fixing what's broken. We believe in:
- Accurate diagnosis — we take the time to understand what's actually causing the problem
- Honest recommendations — we recommend what makes sense for your situation, not simply what creates more revenue
- No pressure — you receive your options and decide how you want to proceed
- No surprise pricing — we explain the price before performing approved work
- Respect for your home — we treat your home the way we'd want our own home treated
- A one-year workmanship warranty — we stand behind qualifying workmanship
And when we find something that could become a bigger problem, we'd rather tell you before we start than surprise you later.
Are you family-owned?
Yes. Top Notch Plumbing was established in June 2017, after years of hands-on experience and a lifelong passion for home renovation and working on homes. Being family-owned matters to us because we don't want growth to come at the expense of personal service or our standards. We want customers to know the people behind the company, trust the people entering their homes, and feel comfortable calling us again years later.
What makes Top Notch Plumbing different?
We believe the difference is in the decisions we make — not just the repairs we perform. Our Master Plumber reviews plumbing issues to help ensure the best course of action is considered. We look not only at the problem in front of us, but also at what could go wrong if work begins. If there is a potential complication, we'll tell you. If there is a less expensive solution that makes sense, we'll tell you. If something doesn't need to be replaced, we'll tell you. We want you to feel confident that you made the right call — not pressured into making a purchase.
